I’ve typed the text normally, selected a circle and text and then used Tools/Apply text to Path.
See photo. I’ve tried horizonal spacing but it makes the remaining letters too far apart. Suggestions?

Did you try another similar font, like Ariel? Sometimes, fonts have characteristics that give us grief.
I ended up converting to path and moving them around as best I could and rotating to make them line up again. The font has to be identical (as close to) to the original chosen by the school.
Need not say any more. I have dealt with educational institutions myself. Glad you found a solution.
Can you use the curved text feature?
Turn off welded text and you can increase distance between letters with h space
@StevT Just tried this with this font and it wasn’t the ideal solution. Totally font dependent. Thanks for the suggestion!
@micrololin This actually worked best with this font. Thank you. I forgot about this feature.
