Core 2.0.05-RC-7 solved one problem but caused another one for me

Using Lightburn 2.0.04 on Windows 10 spare laptop dedicated for my laser setup. To overcome nuisance issue with “Cut Settings Editor” popup being too large for my screen scale and resolution ( 100% and 1366x768 ) so “SAVE” and “CANCEL” buttons were being hidden by Taskbar, I loaded LB 2.0.05-RC-7 which immediately solved the popup size issue. VERY HAPPY ! But now for some reason when I try and save a change to a material setting to my library I get the message “File failed to save” even though it did save the change. When reverting back to version 2.0.04 no “failed to save” message but popup back to being too large for my screen. To test issue I loaded 2.0.05-RC-7 on my “main” laptop with Windows 11 and don’t have this issue. Any advice or should I just ignore the “failed to save” message and carry on using 2.0.05-RC-7 on my Win 10 laptop ?

On v2.0.04 try using WinKey+UpArrow to maximize the window. I know this does not solve the RC-7 issue, but it mught help you use a version that is fairly stable.

Thanks for that advice, will revert back to 2.0.04 until 2.0.05 is officially released, although it did solve the issue of popup size but caused file saving issues. I tend to use file saving more than Cut Settings Editor as my material library is pretty well sorted out. Take care.

Where is the material library saved on your computer? If you’re saving to a protected location, like the root of a drive, or in the “Program Files” folder, it won’t let you, and that’s why it warns.

That is why I installed it C:\Lightburn to avoid those issues.

Saving it to C:\ Lightburn as per MikeyH. on my Win 10 laptop but still has the issue not wanting to save. Works 100% on my new Win 11 laptop with similar C:\ Lightburn folder in Documents. My thinking is issue not related to Lightburn per se but with the Win 10 laptop. Going to do a clean re-install of Lightburn and will advise results. Take care and thanks for the help.

Okay…. so uninstalled all Lightburn apps and files from my Win 10 laptop. Did a clean install of version 2.0.04 and only issue was material Cut Settings Editor popup being too “tall” for my screen, but could drag it up and away from taskbar to get “buttons” to show. Material library all there and able to save changes as well as new projects.

Uninstalled 2.0.04 and all related files.

Installed 2.0.05-RC-7 Able to access material library and save changes / additions. Cut Settings Editor perfect size for my screen…… so far so good. Created a simple project ( simple box ) and assigned material setting from library…..so far so good. Tried to “save as” project ( C:\ Lightburn ) …TELLS ME FILE DOES NOT EXIST….. so won’t save ! I know file does not exist because I’m trying to save it !!

Uninstalled 2.0.05 plus all related files and re-installed 2.0.04……all works except popup screen size issue back again.

So…..thanks for all the help and advice but looks like I’ll stick with 2.0.04 ( with popup size issue ) until hopefully 2.0.05 is released.

Take care.

Did you try to save as C:\LightBurn.lbrn

…or did you try to save in a folder called C:\LightBurn that already exists?

Those are two very different things. I just now created a folder in my C: drive called LightBurn and saved a project there. We also have no error message in LightBurn that says that a file does not exist. Can you take a screen shot of that error for me?

WinKey+UpArrow.

Thanks for continued support…..much appreciated,

The file saving issue is definitely related to my Win 10 laptop’s compatibility with LB 2.0.05 pre-release. Went back and forth a couple of times with install / uninstall of 2.0.04 and 2.0.05 on both “old” Win 10 laptop and my new Win 11 laptop. Both using exact same structure of folders for C:\ Lightburn. Can 100% confirm that 2.0.04 and pre-release 2.0.05 work perfectly on Windows 11 Laptop. But on Win 10 laptop 2.0.04 works EXCEPT for popup screen size…..able to save material libraries, all project files, etc. However, pre-release 2.0.05 has ideal popup screen size…..but will not save a change / addition to a material library….nor will it save a new project file.

I will use WinKey+UpArrow for now and in my spare time will try and figure out why my Win 10 laptop doesn’t like 2.0.05 but works with all other CNC and Laser software, incl. Lightburn 2.0.04.

For info I have attached two screen shots……but don’t think it is worth too much effort sorting out my issue until maybe others using pre-release 2.0.05 on a Win 10 PC have the same problem.

Take care.

What you wrote before, and what you’re showing in your screen shots are different things:

The screen shots say you’re trying to save a material library file to a folder called “C:\Users\Andre\Documents\LightBurn 2\Two Trees Using E40.clb” and that it didn’t work. Nothing to do with a project file, or saving in C:\LightBurn

So, does the location you’re trying to save the material library to actually exist? Documents\LightBurn 2\ …

Sorry screen shots were misleading…..please ignore them  . My Lightburn project files and material libraries are properly structured in my documents C:\ Lightburn. Ignore screen shot showing “….\Lightburn 2\…” I was fiddling around creating and trying other folders….. now deleted them and gone back to “pure” file structure.

WHAT I DID SEE AFTER A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP IS…..

When installing 2.0.05 pre-release I was ignoring message “CreateProcess failed code 740” and carrying on with installation which obviously didn’t load Lightburn “properly”…. STUPID ME !!!……

Now before launching installation I check “ Run as administrator” and Lightburn 2.0.05 loads and runs 100% and popup screen is perfect size.

Thanks for putting up with my running around in circles…….take care.

After what seemed like a fix by launching LB as administrator, the problem with not being able to save either a project file or material library amendment resurfaced  .

HOW TO FIX !

Solution 2: Disable Controlled Folder Access

  • This security feature can block programs from saving to protected folders.

  • Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security (Windows 10) or Privacy & Security (Windows 11).

  • Click Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.

  • Under “Virus & threat protection settings,” select Manage settings.

  • Turn Controlled folder access to Off.

THIS SOLVED THE PROBLEM

Take care and keep up the great work.
