Bought a Creality CV-01 just to get my feet wet. Complete failure of Creality’s included software, as in, it crashes upon launch no matter what PC it’s installed on, which led me to LightBurn.
So, my first question is, having downloaded the trial, what device should I select for this unit? I couldn’t find anything specific here to the CV-01.
Creality CV-01 does not have a USB port, only a MicroSD slot. Gcode is loaded on card, card inserted, power on unit, unit homes, runs gcode.
I understand at this point I am only using LightBurn to generate code for the engraver. I selected the Marlin, but it only sort of works. X and Y are reversed and I am having problems fine-tuning the laser power.
I’ve pretty much decided to return the unit to the store and take a bigger step up, maybe to the X-Tool.
X-Tool is a nice piece of equipment. It is also, if I recall, not able to store settings …
There are a lot of machines out there that are very low cost…
Depending on what you want to do … I like playing with them so I have two of these…
They cost $79 US, when available and they don’t last long. They don’t work with Lightburn out of the box, but there is an ‘upgrade’ that will allow Lightburn to run on them. It’s a great low cost way to get into lasers.
At minimum, a lot of what Lightburn has to offer is control of your machine via the pc. This is excluding that it’s the best laser software I think is available.
Most of these run on USB, I’d make sure whatever you get is usable via usb and is a standard grbl interface… If the price is not excessive, I’d suggest one that can ‘home’ with switches… makes life easier… IMHO…
It might be wise to post what you are thinking about and get feedback from actual users about that specific machine.
Try to resist the urge of just jumping into something.
It really depends on how much time you wish to spend learning and dealing with it and what you actually want to do with it…
