Creality Falcon 10W Lightburn not detecting USB (iMac running 15.3.1)

So I recently purchased a Creality 10W Falcon and set it up with no dramas until it came to linking it to Lightburn via USB.

I purchased a USB C to C cable and plugged it in to both my Mac and my laser, imported Creality’s software to enable detection through Lightburn and no USB port was showing available.

Spent hours looking online trying to sort it but nothing I try seems to get the USB port to show.

  • Tried installing drivers to no avail
  • Tried my older MacBook with a USB to USB C cable (nothing)
  • Tried different cables
  • After spending around 10 hours trying to sort it I eventually contacted Creality to see if there was anyway they could have a look remotely (not helpful)

So now I have a brand new machine that I can only use for offline prints which is a nightmare, especially when new to lasers and Lightburn so trying to work out material settings etc too.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many have found connection problems with Mac and their laser to be an issue with how MacOS translates, or rather doesn’t translate the onboard USB 3+ to the USB 2.0 of the laser. The most common solution seems to be using a "dumb: USB 2.0 hub connected though a Lightning adapter. Faulty, cheap USB cables are another source of problem for Mac and PC users alike. Get a high quality USB cable, with the ferrite core on the ends and a USB 2.0 hub and see if that solves your issue. This video will help diagnose if your Mac sees the device and offers a couple suggestions if it doesn’t.

Thanks,

Unfortunately my laser isn’t being detected by the Mac, system report doesn’t show it when I plug it directly into the Mac or when I connect it via a USB 2.0 hub.

Are you sure you have the cable FULLY inserted into your Mac? That has tripped me up before.

Do you have access to a PC that you could try it with? Borrow one from a friend?

If it still doesn’t connect there I suspect a problem with the controller.

Certainly fully inserted, I’ve tried it on my iMac and my MacBook with a USB to USB C to no avail.

I am using a 5m cable to my laser to the Mac and have therefore ordered a 5m USB to USB C to see if it will recognise it once it is plugged into my 2.0 hub.

Thanks for your support

5m is at the very end of USB 2.0 spec and USB 3 maxes out at 3m. I would advise using a 2m cable.

Thanks, When trying my MacBook I have tried a 1m cable.
When the new cable arrives today I am hoping that will work.

Issue now resolved, needed USB to USB C. Seems that USB C to C even when using a dumb hub it hates it.
Obviously has to be USB 2.0 which the hub uses rather than USB 3.1 on my Mac.

Thanks for all your assistance
