Creality falcon 5w vs 10w

Hi everyone! Can anyone show me the difference in fine engraving between the Creality 5W and 10W laser modules? I’m trying to understand the difference. Or maybe someone who owns the 10W module could share a photo of a detailed engraving they’ve done?

I’ve compared my Creality 5W module (0.06x0.06mm) with the Sculpfun S30 Pro 10W (0.06x0.08mm) laser module. I make detailed keychains, and the image detail is very different between the two. This makes me wonder: is it because sculpfun is faking their specs, or would a Creality 10W module show a similar difference?

No, Sculpfun is pretty accurate on the spec for the S30 Pro machine. I have that one.

All laser diodes have a rectangular pattern, so it is your values that are suspect. In fact, it should be a smaller dot than what you state. That said, I Googled it and see [1] 5w diodes are listed as you indicate, and [2] manufacturers do not specify a dot size for 5w diodes as far as I can tell.

How did you make this comparison? Do you also have the S30 Pro so you can make side-by-side comparisons? The .08mm is 25% larger than the .06mm in the Yaxis, so it will be a noticable difference for sure. But I am not sure how much noticable.

Again, we have not seen the difference you indicate but I expect the Creality 10w to be no better than the Sculpfun.

If you are considering the purchase of a 10w laser, the Sculpfun claim to fame is the exceptionally long DOF (depth of focus) which is an advantage when cutting materials or engraving curved surfaces without a rotary.

I run tests files. First one with Creality 5W module.

And second with my Sculpfun S30 pro 10w module.

I’m using same Creality falcon 2 frame, just swap the laser modules.

I just thinking, does the difference between dot size 0.06X0.06mm and 0.06X0.08mm make difference that big or Sculpfun is laying about dot size?

I have 3 Sculpfun machines and the S30 measured kerf by testing on Baltic Birch plywood, and confirmed by digital calipers, was right at 0.06mm in the Xaxis.

I also mentioned that Sculpfun’s DOF (depth of focus) allows me to engrave curved surfaces without using a rotary. My chuck and roller rotaries rarely get used.

Nope. They don’t have to. What you are likely seeing in your tests is the 2-4-6-8 Yaxis extra compared to the 2-4-6 of the Xaxis. As you can easily see, the Yaxis is 25% longer than the Xaxis. Curious, did you rotate the Lightburn test 90 degrees and see how that looked? That would switch the Yaxis long side to the Xaxis.

If you really want to test the precision of your dots, use black anodized aluminum for testing. A long time ago I used my S30 to engrave ISO9 font text (painted aluminum, not anodized) at a 1mm size and it is readable.

Higher power modules tend to have a larger spot size because they combine the beams of multiple diodes into one:

For the C1 Mini’s 3W module, they advertise a spot size of only 0,04 x 0,04 mm. I do believe them. It’s very small.
