CronosMaker (AnnoyTools) A5 pin and air assist

I have the Annoytools board with a Neje 40w laser setup. Everything runs amazing but i am getting quite a bit of smoke and charring when I am cutting wood. I plan on adding an air pump for air assist and have my nozzle setup all printed out and ready to install. My question is i would like to use a solid state relay to activate it per layer instead of just plugging it in and having it run all the time. Has anyone used the A5 pin (or any other connection) with M8 gcode to activate a relay?
