I am running into a problem when using the crosshatch for fills on text. Oftentimes, the north/south crosshatch will misalign itself from the original east/west engraving. I am not entirely sure why this is occurring. Sometimes it is rather drastic, with the text being off as far has half the height of the text.
This is quite discouraging. I suppose we can omit the crosshatch, but then the lettering becomes not as crisp. For reference, we have a Omtech Maker Series 50W machine with a Ruida controller. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Generally running crosshatch isn’t really a good idea with a gantry laser. They are designed to work mostly with the X axes as it’s the one with the least mass. The Y axes carries the head, it’s drag chain, the Y gantry and generally the X axes motor. It’s slower and larger, therefor it has slower acceleration values and performs the worst of the two axes.
You can also change the scan angle, did you change that? The Ruida is pretty much a hardware device, if you set a scan angle of anything other than 90 degree increments, the software has to handle all the work. Same restriction applies to overscan. Any other scan angle, you loose the Ruida produced overscan, it’s now your problem.
Can you specify your setting for this?
Speed/power, interval, scan angle and material… Lens length might be helpful.
Thank you for the info! I am very new to laser engravers and had no idea about this model being preferable to really only use the x axis. I will give it a shot on Monday when I am back in the office without the crosshatch and see how it goes. Thank you for the help!
I attached screenshots of what we planned on cutting in LightBurn, the final Result, and the settings for the layer with the text on it. Let me know if you need anything else.
The material we are using is Rowmark Lasermax 1/16th in. thick 2 ply acrylic sheets.
