Cut Order to paint with picture added

I want to mask this off and paint the flag. What are your suggestions on how to do this without affecting the image? Was thinking cut flag, paint, then line it up and run the photo?

Hey @robertguyton this is a cool project.
Do you mean mask physically with tape then paint it? Just trying to establish if you are talking about a real world operation or a software based one  I think you mean real world!
I think your suggested method is sounds. I’d mask the material with masking tape or transfer tape for sign making, then run the Line operation, weed out the bits I want to paint, then paint. Let it dry then add the engraving.

You should consider using the Print & Cut feature so you can line everything up after you’ve done the paint job.

and I hope it goes without saying we want to see the results (good or bad)

I’d be tempted to reverse @Dominic’s suggestion, because the engraving is the high-value part of the project:

  • Surface prep for engraving & painting
  • Engrave photo
  • Verify it’s Good Enough™, re-burn as needed
  • Mask entire surface
  • Cut flag pattern mask, leaving photo masked
  • Weed, paint, peel
  • Surface seal / coat
  • Profit!

Doing it in that order lets you perform all the laser operations without the remove-and-reposition dance, assuming you clamp the board (or whatever) in position while masking.

… and why not, it’s a valid point. Thanks @ednisley
