Cut shapes problem

Hey guys; I’ve got a shape here that I cannot get to close, when I use cut shapes ( I am set to fill). I get the required result when using a simple shape - but not the “I/16 Plywood fuselage doubler”. There is something wrong with this shape. I got it from a dxf file for the plane I am working with.

you will note in the attached file the doubler over my laser work space and the cutter - I cannot get this combination to cut and close the shape.

Below my laser work space and to the Right - I made a simple rectangle and used the same cutter - it cuts it and closes it as expected.

Any idea what is wrong with the doubler shape?
thx

If you zoom into the end nodes (larger squares) you can see that they are not joined.

Either move manually and join the ends or use Edit->Close path.

Thx - I found that and fixed it - but I still cannot get the “cut shapes” to give me a closed shape with the locating tab I have drawn on the cutter.

In the lower right sketch - executing a “cut shapes”, does give me the result when using the same cutter. So there must still be something else wrong with the “fancy” shape.

Any further ideas?
thx

I’m not sure if I’m following you exactly.

Is this what you’re after?

If so, I didn’t do anything more than:

  1. Close fuselage shape with Edit->Close Path
  2. Select fuselage
  3. Add cutting shape to selection
  4. Tools->Cut Path

Are you saying this doesn’t work for you?

Thats exactly what I want. Let me follow your steps and check it out. For step 1 - I moved the lines and trimmed to close the shape.

thanks for your help !
Mike

Bingo !

thanks
