Cutting in High Humidity

If this is a new machine, I’d start by advising the vendor/manufacturer about the problem. They can help if it’s serious, but it’s always good, with a new machine, to keep them in the loop.

If you split this into it’s two parts, the laser machine and the material…

The laser won’t really be affected by humidity changes, as it’s either encapsulated or it’s emf, nether should be too effected by humidity.

The 3mm basswood will absorb this water and effect the cutting.

I live in the desert sw, so as a general rule we don’t have high humidity unless there happens to be a monsoonal thunderstorm on top of your workshop.

I cut 5mm sub flooring on my 43W machine at 11mm/s@45%, I doubt that the humidity is the issue. It sounds like you have enough power, so something else must be amiss.

I’d think back to ensuring proper alignment?

If you have these three

  • properly working tube
  • clean and aligned optics
  • proper focus

they just work.

For starters, try this link to ensure you’re tube is operating properly.
