Cutting through cork with a 10W diode laser?

I recently tried cutting through 3/16" (~4.8mm) cork with my 10W diode laser (2 x 5W diodes) and the laser just couldn’t get through this material.

I first tried 100% power with a speed of 500mm/s and it just burned the cork in and out. Horrible.

I then tried 50% power and increased the speed to 1000mm/s and that produced a much finer cut with minimal edge charring, but again it just couldn’t cut though.

I am just so disappointed. I’ve seen videos of dudes cutting through 10mm wood with relatively nice cuts, so I thought for sure that I’d have no problem cutting through cork board. I guess I need a more powerful laser?

My machine has air assist as well.
