I’ve had this unit for many years but no longer use it on my laser. Problem is that it recently developed two pin hole leaks at the top of the aluminum coil. I’ve always used marine or RV antifreeze either straight or cut with water.
Does anyone know of and can recommend some additive that helps protect the aluminum parts of these water chillers?
The idea of most of these coolants is to maintain a high dielectric constant, so I doubt it’s electrolysis causing this…
More than likely it’s the Chinese product corroding, I don’t know what you can add that won’t adversely effect the dielectric constant of the chillers coolant…
If it’s the radiator, I’d suggest a radiator shop…
Since I’m not getting any suggestions here. I’ll turn my question into a tip.
I think the combination of running low fluid levels and letting the chiller sit for a while caused air to corrode in the very top aluminum coils.
I’m sure not all chillers have this construction but the point is it’s best to keep the coolant high so all the coils (internals) are immersed in fluid.
Btw I haven’t used this very low cost unit much but I’ve had it for over 10 years which isn’t bad. And I was able to patch the leaks with JB Weld.
That’s a pretty good lifetime for Chinese made radiators.
I’m sure others will read your tip.
That is Number One good stuff!
