D1 Pro and new license/release

Tangent question, I paid & activated LightBurn today after trial expired. I’m on latest version.
Prior to license my D1 Pro laser was configured and running smooth. After, my head stutters, jumps, and does not engrave as it did prior.

Doesn’t seem like it would be a license activation issue but fact is this is exactly when the problems started. I loaded XCS with the same art and it engraved flawlessly. Traditional root cause analysis, rebooting, closing apps, reloading, restarting, etc.Head keeps banging and stuttering left to right.

That said, there were two back to back updates specific to GRBL and I wonder if critical settings or $ strings were changed or deleted. Is there any remnant from previous installs to compare to?

I’ve checked machine settings…set to mm/sec…which match my layer settings of mm/sec… Machine top speed is rated at 400mm/sec and I’m attempting to run 350mm/sec, something that has worked flawlessly for the last month.

I will say that the banging, jittering, and jumping reminds me of the first day I setup this machine and speed settings didn’t match layer burn settings…Mix up mm/min with mm/sec and the laser attempts to run 60x faster than it’s designed to run. This caused my X-axis to be maxed out 100% of the time and head slammed back and forth and jumped teeth.

So, I’ve checked these settings and they match each other. mm/sec to mm/sec, however I feel there may be machine code, $ string, or other configuration that I’m not familiar with that may have been changed during the software update error and fix across 2 versions.

Where should I look and what do I compare it to?

If I’m reading this correctly, you are attempting to run the machine at 350mm/sec that equates to 21,000 mm/min. I don’t own an Xtool but on my diode machine that would be way too fast. Have you tried reducing the speed dramatically and see if things improve ?

What are you doing when this happens? What is the head banging into?

Are you saying for LightBurn or for XCS?

Note that LightBurn never changes your laser configuration directly in any install. The only time this would occur is if you explicitly made a change in Machine Settings.

Also note that xTool completely block-out such changes so is a moot point on their machines.

One thing to check is the speed set in Move window as there was a bug related to speeds there. Make sure the speed is set to something reasonable.

I agree with @Mooseuk that you should attempt to dramatically lower speeds to see if that makes a difference. I know xTool advertise 400 mm/s maximum speed but their speed/acceleration settings in firmware have traditionally been overly ambitious.

Worked flawlessly at 400mm/sec prior to buggy update
Issue began only after installing buggy update and continued to latest update.

I don’t believe lightburn is communicating speed correctly.
Something changed that lightburn was not supposed to touch.

Persons that skipped buggy update and went directly to latest update (ie. skipping 2 released software versions) have no issue. I and others that got hit with buggy update report issues.

Hey, thanks for the info.

Hanging…sorry, not hitting a physical barrier…head acts as if its not observering the overscan settings and attempting to reverse X direction at edge of art in an instant vs moving past and slowing down before reversing direction.

LightBurn released a messed up software update where they posted that things were changed that should not have been changed. Those that installed both the buggy update and the latest release that came out 2 days later are reporting issues…while those that skipped the buggy version have continued with no issues.

I’m familiar with the speed set in move window…that’s not at issue…issues only occurs during burn.

Uninstalling LightBurn, cleaning dir, reinstalling from scratch and importing OEM settings as I did originally. Did same some are and material library and took screenshots of LightBurn settings I’d modified for customization prior to any issues.

Copy of my LightBurn Data Log for Debug if someone wants to play with it.

Can you provide the following:

  1. Full screenshot of LightBurn a design loaded, Cut window and Laser window showing
  2. Screenshot of Edit->Device Settings window

Just booted up after fresh install that is not so fresh because LightBurn must have found settings hidden in windows, though I performed uninstall, deleted directory, and reinstalled to a newly named directory…ie. /LightBurn1.

Here are screenshots I took prior to uninstall.

I’m not seeing anything that would cause the symptoms you’re talking about other than potentially the absolute speed causing missed steps.

Did you happen to have a firmware update immediately before the behavior shift?

No change of anything prior to or since the buggy LightBurn software install.

Despite LightBurn holding onto settings from previous install in Windows Registry I’m hoping that this new install will return the device to pre-bug version success.

If it does, then we have a solution that may be announced publicly.

LightBurn doesn’t use registry for LightBurn configuration. All relevant prefs are held in prefs.in in the Prefs folder accessible from the File menu. Registry is used for installation information and handling of .lbrn file type.

Well, where ever it grabbed the old settings…wish me luck!

Have you had any luck? I have issues also after the buggy update you spoke about. But mine are different. I now have an issue that my process times are 2x to 3x longer than the estimated times and while using the rotary the X axis runs half to less than half of the commanded speed while the Z axis is selected in the rotary setup window.
