D1 rotary not filling

Why is my rotary cutting little lines like this instead of filling solid letters??

Are your dimensions also stretched? Looks to me like your rotary axis configuration is incorrect (mm per rotation and roller diameter).

Yes! I’ve tried to change the settings, but nothing has worked. The circumference of my water bottle is 230mm…if that helps you help me at all lol.

Which rotary do you have? Is it chuck or roller? If RA2 have you updated the firmware to accommodate?

Can you elaborate on what you’ve tried and what the results were? Are you saying that nothing changes at all with your changes?

Screenshots and photos would be helpful

I have the xtool d1 roller (not RA2).

At 360mm per rotation, it rotates several times and doesn’t completely come back to the original position. I tried to change that to a value that makes it rotate only once, 130ish mm.

I’ve reset to original settings, updated firmware, software, etc. Could my rollers be too far apart? Since my diameter is >60mm, it’s on the widest setting.

There was also a suggestion to change settings using $$, but I didn’t want to do that yet and not be able to undo it if that royally screwed it up since it works perfectly without the rotary.

I am also using Monterey 12.4 instead of Big Sur like I originally thought

Good thinking… Go to the Machine settings and ‘save’ the current configuration as a factory backup. Put it where you can find it, but not where you’re likely to overwrite it. You can then ‘load’ the file, and ‘write’ it to the controller. That sets it all back to what was saved. When the rotary is setup properly, you should save it also, so you switch back and forth.

On a roller type, the roller is moving at the ‘surface’ speed, so you don’t need a circumference. The distance between rollers should not matter.

Only on a chuck type do you need to enter the circumference, so it can compute the surface speed.

I would think there would be some standard way to set the steps. Adjustments are only for the analog world, so steps/rotation of the motor should be some standard value…?

Good luck

Have you watched the LightBurn video on rotary setup for D1? They specify 360 mm/revolution and 17 mm roller diameter.

Also, can you confirm the specific firmware version you have? There was a recent change made to accommodate the RA2 that may have affected rotary operation. If this is the case for you then configuration should be 32 mm/rotation and 17 mm diameter.

I did watch the video and did as it said. I left the rotations at 360mm/rev and 17mm roller diameter. That’s when it was rotating more than one full revolution when I test it.

I do not have the RA2. Firmware mac\D1_firmware_V40.30.005.01B2_20220524 (if that’s the right info…I’m way too new at this)

I believe this is the firmware for Laserbox 1.3.0 and includes the RA2 changes. Try changing settings to 32 mm/rotation and 17 mm diameter.

Or else you may want to revert back V40.30.002.01B1 which I believe is the recommended firmware for Laserbox 1.2.0.

So do you think I should use Laserbox for the rotary? I like lightburn much better, but I’ll use whatever is best until I get more experienced with it.

This isn’t what I was saying but I suppose that’s an option.

Here are your two options if you want to use LightBurn:

  1. Try changing settings to 32 mm/rotation and 17 mm diameter in Rotary setup. This might work for your rotary. If so, the change was required because of changes xTool made to the firmware in preparation for RA2.
  2. Downgrade your firmware to V40.30.002.01B1. This should then revert to your previous behavior and existing Rotary settings.
