Hello,
We purchased a Wecreat Lumos & would love to be able to utilize for doing depth maps/3D engraving (brass coins, etc).
Approaching Wecreat support, they said to talk to Lightburn since the “Mode” feature is greyed out. Do we need the Pro version?
The depth map engraving in Lightburn is only possible with Galvo type lasers (according to the documentation). And real Galvo lasers need the Pro version.
Your laser has a galvo kind laser system, but it uses GRBL, so it works with the core version Unfortunately it´s not a real galvo control laser and can´t use depth map due that. I think, even the pro version will not help to enable that feature.
Anyhow, for coin engraving the infrared laser seems very weak (the Diode laser isn´t useful for that). Usualy galvo lasers have 20 Watt and upwards, for coin engraving 60W is reccomended
Have a look at the parameters. It states 2mm/s, 10 passes and 100 lines per mm
This means, the laser needs aprox. 14 hours for one square cm
So your coin would need more than nine days of contiuos laser work.
Additional info: Importet the Lumos settings (created a machine) - still no luck with a depth map image (I have the pro version), so I think it´s not supported.
Created a circle 40mm in fill mode - preview gives me 175h as engraving time with the given settings
Thanks so much for your helpful response! We had the impression when purchasing this machine that it would be an alternative to the XTool (as they seemingly promote they can do depth maps - even within their software). I understand if this unit does not have the technical capabililty. Maybe just doing flat etching into a coin will be sufficient for us now.
