Delete the Crossover parts

Capture
Hello All,

I might be having a brain loss moment but the pic attached I have 2 offset shapes where I want to delete the parts marked in red where they cross. I have clicked both and tried the Subtract etc etc and don’t seem to get those pieces deleted. Any help would be helpful.

Regards,
Jack

A number of methods will accomplish your objective, but I think the easiest way is to set the object to line, not fill, turn on node editing and place mouse over each line in turn. Press T to trim which should cleanly remove the marked segments. If that doesn’t work for you, consider attaching the file for offline checking.

I believe what you are looking to do is not to delete those pieces, but to combine the graphics where they overlap, so those areas are Filled. The Weld option out to do just that.

Now you got me wondering… I thought it was supposed to look like a ribbon on top of the main image.

Therefore you couldn’t see the lines they wants to delete.

I think someone needs to clarify the issue… :exploding_head:

Probably wants it to look like this.

That was my delusion also

Ah, yes, I see now. In that case they should be able use Boolean Subtract if they duplicate the ribbon first. Subtract the ribbon from the shield, then ungroup the shapes made from the shield, and delete the ones in between the ribbon border.

Yes. How you do dat?

Yes Ralph. How you do dat?

By using the Trim tool

I have the ribbon and shield in Line mode and trimmed a couple of inside lines then connected the loose end up to the rest of the shape but can’t seem to trim the other two without taking a bunch of the line.

LB has some accuracy problems when using trim mode. Sometimes, it will trim a couple of intersections correctly, but if you zoom in, it will have pulled an intersection slightly away (probably less than 0.001"), but it is enough that it will trim too much. You have to then snap the endpoint back to the edge that it is near, and try again.

Ralph…I had to break a few nodes and reconnect the lines to get the ants to run in the same direction so I think I am all good. Thanks to all for the advice.
