I’ve been able to make HO scale brick walls with my laser cutter, but the bricks are too uniform. Is there a way to design walls made of distressed or used brick without having to design a bunch of individual bricks?
No other than the ones you can possibly buy and they are also “handmade”. I once made a large building and made the walls for it, all by hand. I mean I made about 30-40 stones and then mixed them, turned the stones …
Would it be ok for you to purchase a vector image of a brick wall. I just searched and found many options in style, colour and uniformity.
Depending on how fussy you are about the looks, Inkscape can produce a rectangular wall with random-ish variations based on a single prototype brick:
A myriad options hide behind Edit → Clone → Create Tiled Clones and, believe me, you will use the Remove button a lot. ![]()

I think he’s looking for a random distressed look, not random orientation. He wasn’t clear.

Yes, you’re correct. Thanks for pointing it out,
Try using chatgpt. this was created by asking for a line drawing of a brick wall detail in a SVG format. This is what I got. It then gave me a whole bunch of options it could apply to it such as brick details, brick outlines, mortoar line clearly defined and many others
Sounds like a good use for AI, it’s got my vote.

I gave Chat gpt a go and it may be better if your logged in as I asked for a bonsai tree and had what looked like a cacti as a result, even after a few prompt attempts to improve.
It also suggested some changes to settings that I would not make unless all were noted for resetting afterwards.
Looks like it could be very useful and fun as we see from the brick wall example, but be ready to get specific on detailed prompts for images and laser type, materials etc etc if you want a specific image file with settings etc ready to burn.
