Diode "There was a problem sending data to the laser" Creality Falcon 10W

Just got a Creality Falcon 10W after seeing it at the LBX conference in Peoria. I resurrected my laptop running Win7, downloaded Lightburn 1.4.x and installed.

When adding a device, it “saw” the GRBL device on COM3. But, problem sending data to the laser.

I rebooted the diode laser, rebooted the computer, got a brand new top-rated USB cable and I’ve searched online as well as Lightburn forums. . . . but nothing doing.

Very frustrating after having high hopes of “plug and play.” Sigh.

I checked Device Manager – and watched what happened when I unplugged and plugged in the USB cable.

There is no COM3 listed under Ports . . . though LIghtburn seemed to find and install the GRBL on COM3.

When I replug the USB cable, an “Espressif CDC Device” pops up in Device Manager under “Other devices,” but there is a yellow triangle with exclamation point next to it - and the message that driver software was not successfully installed . . . No driver found."

Windows 7 does not ship with a matching driver for Espressif CDC.

You can use a utility called Zadig to correct for this.

I’d suggest following this guide from Ortur to install the driver. The steps should be the same for your laser but be very careful to follow the instructions closely.

Once installed, open LightBurn and try discovering the laser.
