Display mm and inches

Is there a way to display both mm and inches at the same time? I use both regularly and I’m constantly switching. It’s especially frustrating if I’m in inches and I’m in the layer setting and want to change the kerf settings, which I know only in mm. Alternatively, is there a keyboard shortcut to toggle between the two?

I don’t believe there’s a way to do this. Not exactly sure how it would work other than by doubling-up all fields which may end up being quite confusing.

This might be more practical especially if it were globally available. I may be wrong but I don’t believe there’s anything like this today.

Perhaps something for a feature request.

I don’t know if it helps, but it’s my understanding that regardless of what the units are currently set to, in any field you can enter any units and it will convert them for you automatically. So if you’re currently set to millimeters, and you type in “4.5 in”, it will automatically convert and show you the metric equivalent.

I could be wrong, but I swear I saw this in a video somewhere.

Good point. However, I believe this may only work in numeric edits toolbar. I don’t think this works for things like kerf offset. Although that would be nice if they did.

Just in case you didn’t notice- there is a button in the toolbar to change the measurement system. I never noticed it till someone in the forum pointed it out.

@berainlb You are correct.
The software appears to convert in many measurement fields, but not all.
A partial solution indeed.

@patricr I hadn’t noticed that either, and it certainly is faster than opening the settings dialog.
Once any other dialog box is open however, that button on the main screen cannot be selected until the dialog box is no longer active. Perhaps @Rjplaisted’s idea of a keyboard shortcut would work here, if implemented.

Still… lovin’ this software.

That’s great info that measurements can be entered either way in some fields. That helps a bit. It’s a pretty small hinderance for me overall, it’s really just easier to work in mm for kerf and perferation settings for me. I can’t imagine doing that in inches. Then it’s some of my raw materials are inches, some metric. I imagine this is a very specific problem for only a few people.

I agree about that measurement button being hidden while in a dialog box. I frequently need to quit a dialog box and go back again after changing the measurement. I. looked for an “Edit Hotkeys” entry, but did not find it. Too bad the US has never completely changed to metric, but being 73 means I have spent a lot of time in imperial!

You know, when I was in school and they were teaching us Metrics, I couldn’t believe how simple it was… the power of 10 and all. It just clicked with me, and I remember at the time asking myself, “What is with all this inches and feet crap… even our money is based on the power of 10.”

But alas, I’m here in the U.S. where we don’t always follow logic.

Still… at least we are driving on the right side.
HAHAHaaahaaaaaa… Ugh.
