Double head laser - turn on second laser by default

When I open a new lightburn window it turns the my second laser off by default. Even when I turn it on and save the settings as the default, it wont save my settings for “Laser 2”

Is there a way to change this? I am little surprised that the factory settings do not turn on the second laser by default. Most people with a dual head laser will usually be using both heads.

Are you connecting both lasers through a hub, or are they connected to separate USB ports on the PC?

What is this dual head laser you speak of? Sounds interesting.

This is actually a single machine with two laser tubes. It allows two identical parts to be cut at once when higher production is needed.

It’s a single machine with two lasers that cut identical parts. Its great when higher production is needed.

Unrelated to your query but, could you share an image of the machine if possible?

Must stop the late night diagnostics. Have no idea why I thought it was separate machines.

Pretty sure the answer to your original question is - no. Lightburn has no way of knowing there are two lasers in your machine. If you have Home on startup enabled, Lightburn will send the Home command to your controller. Otherwise, it just does nothing. I imagine it is the second data stream that is causing your controller to switch heads.

I appreciate your input but I think you are still thinking of something different. My laser has a X,Y table like all lasers, but the X belt has two laser heads mounted on it with lasers coming in from each side of the arm.

I attached a screenshot of Lightburn’s cut interface for the second laser switch. Every time I open up the program it turns off the second laser by default for all line colors and I need to manually turn them all back on which is annoyingly often.

Have you clicked the Make Default button in the bottom of the Cut Settings Editor, then selected Load Default Layer Settings in Edit → Settings?

I think that should encourage LightBurn to go in the right general direction, but admit to not having a fancy laser to try it out. :slightly_smiling_face:

Aw, thank you: ‘Load Default Layer Settings’ is what I needed.
