Drops Devices from the device list

For some reason, Lightburn drops all of the devices from the device list. I edited GBRL to work with my Atomstack and renamed it GBRL-Atomstack and everything worked fine for well over a year. Recently, I added the LaserPecker 4 devices and everything was fine for a while, then all of my devices were dropped and only GBRL is left. Apparently there is a conflict with the LP device or the LP4 Design Space software is deleting the Lightburn device list.

I’d be surprised but I’d like to look.

All your missing device information should be in the lbprefs file.
Before you restore it, I’d like to look at the current damage to see if I can decipher what happened.

In LightBurn, click File, Click export prefs and save it to the desktop with a file name like July 2023 missing devices.

After that, click File, click Import prefs and select a date-coded file that lines up with a solid guess of when your device Profiles were ideal. As this proceeds, Copy the filename. It’ll be handy.

You should have all your Devices in LightBurn.

Now, Export prefs again and save the second file to the desktop with the filename you copied - or any other name.

If you’re interested I’ll take a look at those two files. I’m optimistic that I’ll see something that went wrong.

John,

Attached are some files. What is most curious is that the original prefs file is half the size of the prefs file with devices dropped. Maybe a Lightburn update? Also, I was trying to run LP4 with Lightburn, and I also ran Lightburn simultaneously with LP4 - cutting with Atomstack and engraving with LP4.

The LP4 folks have not yet provided the fix to work with Lightburn which promised last Monday (or they have not notified me).

Anyway, I am most happy that I was able to recover my modified GBRL device. I should have looked better at the prefs menu.

The forum will not let me upload lbprefs files. How can I send them to you?

It appears that the devices were dropped with a software update? I loaded one of the 37KB saved device files and damn near ruined my Atomstack - the laser bumped into the rails before I could do anything and the limit switches didn’t stop it. I then loaded the device file that was 70KB that had dropped all of my devices except GBRL and everything works fine. What is strange is that the change from 37KB to 70KB happened only 58 seconds apart according to the back-up file list. I have no idea what is happening but at least Lightburn is working with my Atomstack. The LaserPecker folks have promised a fix to get LP4 working with Lightburn.

If you’re still willing to share the files, please add .txt to the end of the file name and upload them here. The more eyes on this strange happening, the better.

LP4 prefs .txt (80.0 KB)
LP4 prefs dropped.txt (70.1 KB)

The LP4 devices were added before 15 July. I did nothing I know of to delete them. I have since added them back and they so far have not been dropped again. They don’t do any good - LP4 still does not work with LB but I hope sometime in the future the LP4 folks will update their firmware to recognize LB commands.
