Here is a box generated by the boxes.py site. What I am trying to do is get rid of the tabs on all four panel bottoms so they are all flat. I couldn’t figure out how to do it at that site and hope there is a way to do it in Lightburn. Thank you
I think what you want is the “e Straight Edge” option for the bottom_edge
parameter:
https://festi.info/boxes.py/ABox?FingerJoint_angle=90.0&FingerJoint_style=rectangular&FingerJoint_surroundingspaces=2.0&FingerJoint_bottom_lip=0.0&FingerJoint_edge_width=1.0&FingerJoint_extra_length=0.0&FingerJoint_finger=2.0&FingerJoint_play=0.0&FingerJoint_space=2.0&FingerJoint_width=1.0&Lid_handle=none&Lid_style=none&Lid_handle_height=8.0&Lid_height=4.0&Lid_play=0.1&x=100.0&y=100.0&h=100.0&outside=0&outside=1&bottom_edge=e&thickness=3.2&format=lbrn2&tabs=0.0&qr_code=0&debug=0&labels=0&reference=0&inner_corners=corner&burn=0.04&language=en&render=0
Which spits out this LightBurn Abox.lbrn2
file:
That’s the simplest box, but the same parameter should appear elsewhere with the same meaning.
That sounds like just the thing I’m looking for Ed, I’ll see if I can find it and generate a new box. Thanks!
Alternately, if you only want to remove a few of the tabs, you can just use the node editor and delete them, which will create a straight line between the remaining tabs. I do this all the time to create a finger or coin slot for prying open the tightly fitted lids.
Here for example (as compared to the back of the box - the Wolf side):
I’d go for Eds suggestion as well, that’s the engineer’s approach.
In case you don’t have the chance to edit the box, the last resort would be to use node edit mode and delete all nodes that are between the bottom edges. Then automatically all tabs are removed and you get a straight line.
I would use node edit, just for practice. This is the most powerful tool in Lightburn cad and is well worth the time to learn how to use.
I have a lid that sits on top of my amplifier/tuner… I used boxes.py to create it and just used the boolean operations to remove parts of the box I didn’t want, including the notches…
It was larger than my bed, so I cut the four corners separately. Next one will be acrylic… it got humid and this one warped to some extent.
Ed, I could not find that e straight line editor in the box maker I was using. And to the node editor that you and some others mentioned, I found it in the tools on the left but will need to investigate how to use it it, couldn’t get it to do anything but Dskall says it’s worthwhile to learn how to use so sometime I’ll have to pursue it. For now though I think I’ll try to find a different file. Thank you all for the help.
A link would be helpful. Hit the Save to URL
button, then copy-n-paste that huge mess into your reply so we can all see what you see.
The doc may shed some light:
Edit Node Tool - LightBurn Software Documentation.
Note that you do not use the Ctrl
key for the letter commands when the Node Editor
is active.
It’s a steep learning curve, but worth the effort when you’re making customized containers!
Or straightening out most anything copied off internet.
