Engrave and Cut same object

Pardon me if this topic has already been covered (I’ve searched through this forum and on YTube but can’t seem to find an answer).

I want to engrave the tip of the ears on this cat and some of the whiskers while cutting out all around the cat. Think of an ornament style project. I can’t seem to figure out how to engrave the tip of the ears past the inner circle and also cut out around the cat. I’ve seen some projects for sale that do the engraving and cut out but for the life of me I can’t figure it out (I’ve spent about 2 days playing with Boolean, cut shape and nodes but I can’t seem to make it happen. Thank you in advance for any tips you may have.

Please add an image or .lbrn file

A picture of what you’re trying to accomplish would be very helpful. Also possibly upload your lbrn file so we can see where you’re at in the process.

I note you tried to upload an SVG file, which is not supported on the forum at present. Update your image using PNG format. Thank you.

Have you tried setting the outermost ring to another (cutting) layer?

I guess you want to achieve something similar to this:

In this case, the original image (top) should be cut out, but the inner structure should be engraved. If this is one shape or all are on the same layer, this does not work. Here, I cut the shape using the node edit tools and put the remaining inner shape on an engraving layer (here it’s also line, but with low power) and the black one is cut.

Yes and good input thank you. I may upload another picture showing the different layers as that may help everyone.

Ah! Yes this is closer to what I am hoping to achieve. The low power idea might be the ticket. Thank you…Let me upload another picture (if it will let me…) to show the different layers I have. This is the first time I’ve asked for help in this forum so my apologies for the lack of clarity.
