Engrave Tumbler with different levels or OD

Hello All,

I am being asked to engrave some words then leopard print all the way around this tumbler. The issue as you can see is the bevel from a large OD to a smaller OD. I thought about focusing then engraving my regular speed/power for the top half and about half way down the bevel. Then get into a different layer and immediately pause the laser to refocus (without moving the laser at all, good luck) then start it again where it goes from half way down the bevel and ends up at the bottom somewhere. Hopefully my levelness won’t have any issues. Might want to bump my power up about 10% to make sure I get thru the paint. It probably won’t exactly line up at the other side but… Any thoughts?

The basic problem is there is a size difference between the two OD of the mug… to complicate that the sloping part is wider at one place than the other…

What you design in lightburn is for 2d type engraving… the distance around from where it begins the taper down to where it starts to flatten are different lengths …

The is a cylinder correction that might help you out… This is a video on how to engrave round things without a rotary… it uses lightburn cylinder correction… I’ve never tried this… I have a couple of rotaries…

@berainlb might have used other tools I’m not aware of… there has been discussions on distorting images for similar purposes.

Good luck

Lets see how it looks when you get it done…

I appreciate it but I have to go all the way around. Will see what else is said regarding the tumbler I have to do. Thank you, Diveking
