Engraved name text is split in two, top and bottom

Hi, First time asking for help. I have a Mecpow X3Pro 10W diode laser. I have been using it for a few months but a new problem has occurred I have not seen before. I have made cutting boards to order and engraved the couple’s names and anniversary date. This time the text on one layer is split in two with a distinct separation between the top and bottom of the names. (see photo attached)
The font is Edwardian Script engraved at 4500 mm/min and 50% power, the same setting as I have used for other similar projects. This is the first time, though, for using this font.

The first time it happened I thought I may have bumped the machine or it had gotten caught on the air feed or something. I sanded the whole thing down to get rid of that cut and did it again. The problem is not as severe this time but still not good. I can’t keep sanding the board or I’ll have to remake the whole thing again.

What should I do to correct this?

Looks to me like slipping on your x axis. Check your machine thoroughly for play, particularly the set screws on the motor pulley.

Thanks, I’ll give this a try today. :slightly_smiling_face:

4500 speed seems super fast to me. Try cutting in half and see what happens. But also could be mechanical issues as mentioned above.

The max speed on this particular machine is 10,000 mm/min. I have used these settings for at least 5 other boards and it works effectively for the woods I have used. But thanks for the response
