Engraving a large platter

Hi folks, i have a small challenge that i cant solve. I just turned a 32 cm diam wood platter that i want to engrave with a pattern. But how do i get this pattern straight into the round platter? It has to be spot on, or else it will look stupid. I

If it was square, i would have the corners as a reference for the laser. But how do i find the right spot for the platter on the laser?

Use the center. There is a center finder tool in LB, and you can use current position as start position with the center dot selected.

Another way to get good results is to make a jig to set the platter into. Cut an outline into the cardboard that will hold the platter in place. Lock that outline in place in Lightburn as a frame and then center the design on top of the frame.

For my coasters and small mirror projects, I fix a piece of cardboard onto a heavy scrap board, then put that scrap board onto the workspace.

Turn on laser during frame operation and you can easily check if the jig is in the right place.

I have just done the same thing. I had a 32mm circle to engrave. Fisrt, in lightburn I created a 32mm circle and the imported my design onto that which allowd me to adjust the size and position of the design to my liking. I then placed some cardboard from an empty breakfast cereal packet on to my bed and set the laser to mark it ( not cut). This gave me my design position so the set that to engrave and turned off the circle. I taped the cardboard circle in place and saved the circle file which then allowed me to change the design but not have to repeat the set up for repeat burns, new wood, same circle but different designs. Sounds a bit long winded but it worked for me
