Hello,
I’m trying to engrave a design into blackbutt, using a 100w laser.
The problem is that the sides of the circle are faded and not complete.
I’m using Speed 500 / Max 25 / Min 10.
Can anyone suggest how to overcome this issue. Thank you
I am new rookie laser user. To me it looks like a focus issue. Is the board cupped or not flat? Have you tried on some scrap plywood.
The circle looks like it’s intended to be an engraving, but it’s too narrow for the laser to reach the programmed power. Increase the width by 3 mm = ⅛ inch and see if that improves the results.
The tube takes a millisecond or so to begin producing the power you expect. At 500 mm/s the beam will move at least 0.2 mm while the laser is getting its act together, so if the circle pattern is a millimeter = 1/16 inch wide, it won’t see enough energy.
The circle engraving looks better at the top and bottom, because the laser remains turned on while it scans across the pattern.
The vertical strokes in the smaller letter also suffer from being too narrow, notably the tail in the R of REEF.
If the circle (and letters) must remain at that specific width, then slow the travel to 250 mm/s and cut the power in half. It may take fine tuning to produce the same burn darkness, but at least the tube will give you some energy to work with.
Thanks very much for the info.I’ll give that a go.
A combination of your tips helped. Slowing the machine down & increasing the path width, did the trick.
Thanks very much for your input
