Question about cutting puzzles. I use a D1 Pro 10W laser engraver from xTool. I made a couple of puzzles for my grandson for Christmas. The laser cut them so well that trying to put the puzzle back together is a little challenging because they have to be perfectly lined up in order for them to fit. Is there a way cut something like a .005" gap between the pieces so they fit a little less snug and go in easier? I looked at using the offset function, but since I am fairly new at this, I haven’t used that function before and not sure how it works. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
If you have a lot of power (to spare), you could try defocusing a bit. (my) idea with it is that the laser beam becomes a little wider and maybe gives you the desired tolerance.
That will require each piece to be a separate closed shape, which will not be the case for puzzles made by simply drawing lines “between” each piece. While it’s possible to create separate pieces from a lined puzzle, it’s not straightforward.
One method applies LightBurn’s Trace
function to an image of the puzzle, so that each line produces two closely spaced lines. With a bit of luck, each piece would then get its own border that you could then close into a shape. With even more luck, the spacing between the double lines would produce exactly the right gap for easy reassembly.
Getting all that right would be a puzzle in itself …
Thank you, that is an easy thing to try.
Thank you, I will give it a try. I don’t think I have even scratched the surface of all the things that Lightburn is capable of doing. Always learning.
That’s true for most of us!
