When engraving an image or typed sentences the engraving is darker or deeper at both ends of its travel in the x direction. This happens with every line that it engraves even if the typed sentence is shorter.
I do not know why this has suddenly started happening after the machine was not used for 10 weeks.
It does not happen if I use the free xtool software. I own an xtool D1 engraver.

This means - for the most part - that you selected GRBL M3 as your controller type in Ligthburn.
This happens often if you select Find my laser
Try importing the LBDev instead from Xtool
Delete all other profiles → import this one

How do I get to the appropriate menu to see what controller I have installed?
Click on ‘Devices’ from your laser tab, in Gil’s pic it has a yellow #1 next to Devices

I have the xTool D1 Engraver not the D1 Pro
The xTool GRBL code is installed but the problem still persist.
Any other suggestions to resolve the problem?
Perhaps verifying the Overscan setting allows the machine to get up to speed before the area of interest:
