Engraving leather and adding color

Has anyone tried engraving leather and then add color to the engraved part only. How would i do that. Leather diy dosnt work it seeps onto the leather around the engraving i want only the engraved part colored

You might want to apply a clear coat to the engraved area first, to stop the bleeding.
I’m sure some fancy clear protective coatings exist, but you might like to try some boiled linseed oil if you have it handy. Then let that cure fully before applying the dye. This might need some experimenting though, as I haven’t done this myself.

Whatever you do, be sure you’re only putting undyed, vegetable-tanned, hide leather (or vegan leather SPECIFICALLY made for lasering) into your laser, else you are risking machine and death, as most leather is chrome tanned and dyes contain all sorts of other heavy metals, and faux leathers contain the heavy metals and chlorine!
