I just purchased a xtool D1 10w I have it set up and doing fine when working with wood. Now trying to work with bare aluminum. For some reason I am unable to engrave or cut it. Will this machine do anything on bare aluminum and if so what settings is needed or best?
Nope. It should engrave anodized aluminium though.
Anodized aluminium of course. But, is there something you can add to the aluminium to make it work? I’ve been trying primer with TI O2 but not having much luck with it. I know I can buy Lasermark or Cermark, but I would rather make my own.
We would all like to be able to engrave Aluminum, but simply, the aluminum is reflective to the laser wavelengths, If the surface will not absorb the energy, it will not cut or engrave.
To be more exact, the aluminum is an extremely good conductor of heat. Trying to burn it with a 5 or 10 watt laser is like trying to heat an aluminum pan with a candle. Burning a coating off of the surface is the best you can hope for.
