Engraving painted wood

i am fairly new to laser burning. i just tried my first painted wood. I painted white acrylic paint over black. I engraved a snowman scene. picture came out beautiful. When I wiped a rag across to remove any dust It wiped all of the black paint away leaving just a hit of the image. in the white. Do I need to hit this with a sealer before touching the image? I ran 8000mm/m at 60% power

If the effect was to have a white surface with the black engraving, why bother with the black paint? If you char the wood, that will not easily wipe off. If the wood is to be mounted outdoors, then yes, a sealer is mandatory.

This image shows how it can turn out.
