Hello, does anyone have experience with textile engraving? I would like to try it with the CO2 laser. I mean like ordinary fabric, I’m afraid it’s not possible, but I’d better ask.
For fun, I tried to engrave blue jeans, it went well. Fabric becomes almost white. If I remember correctly, I used very little energy and high speed, at the same time I defocused a lot.
I have also used my 60 Watt CO2 laser to cut flat cotton fabric that I have used to upholster the inside of boxes, it can be cut very well.

A casual attempt at labeling while cutting CPAP mask liners:
A few more experiments also turned out OK:
Those are with a 60 W CO₂ laser throttled down to 15 to 25% at 400 mm/s.
I routinely chop old T-shirts into shop rags, but without any engraving.
Letting the cut fabric air out for a day knocks down the smoky odor you get free with every laser cutter.
