Erratic operation with laser after extension upgrade

Longer Ray5 20w. Complete novice but have been holding my own for the last 5 months. Just upgraded system from 400x400 to an 850x850mm. Communication to laser is haphazard at best. Set all new parameters but laser will sometimes frame and most times not until a hard reset. Laser will follow LB move coordinates at times and than not. If it does it will go to its final starting coordination but than lock up…Console showing as stream started but dead until a hard boot. Managed at times to get it to engrave text…completes one letter than freezes. I’m at a loss. Attempyed to load an old backup prior to expansin but same issues. Any suggestions???

Since the extension kit (I have one too) come with a new harness and you have to unhook everything to install it, you probably just have weak connection somewhere. Either at the mainboard or out on the chassis.
All the best to you

Thanks Larry…triple checked everything and than triple checked again. Trying to contact Longer is like pulling teeth. Only had machine 8 months all was fine until this. Can’t get anyone from longer to respond. They make it impossible to speak directly to technical service. Asking for a schematic for main board to again check proper connection locations. If I need to replace the main board so be it but dont want to toss more $$ unless that’s
my last option

Hey Dan,
I have an extra main board that Longer sent me that I was going to return.
We can save everyone some headaches/emails If I just send it to you.
I will look into how to get your address for such a thing…
Larry

P.S. It might be a bad harness.

P.P.S. Since this blog does not have Private Messages…
Are you a member of Lousiana Hobby Guy’s forum? (Louisiana Hobby Guy)
If not, you should be.
I am, and we can Private Message there (good for mailing and email addresses)
I will be on there tonite (1/30) for a while…
I am LarryED there.

When it freezes do you see any messages in the console window?

Try temporarily using LaserGRBL, if you encounter the same issues then that further suggests a hardware/electrical problem.
