Error 5: homing cycle is not enabled in your Grbl settings

No idea where this is. I’ve removed and recaptured the laser. no change. Weird thing is i pulled in a test print from a guy and it works no issue. But if I try to do a project the laser goes rail to rail… I then have to stop the send. Any ideas?

How do you normally home your machine?

If your machine is showing Error 5, this means Lightburn is trying to Home on connection, however your GRBL Homing setting is disabled.

This might also mean that you have no X0 Y0 reference, and you might be seeing -700 -700 as your machine position

Power on machine → in console type
?
press enter
send output here and a screenshot of your project that is failing?

I just set it up yesterday and Im brand new to all of this. It works with no issues on the file I downloaded for the “Test Print”. So long answer I have no idea on how to “set” the home

I was receiving an Error 3… it said homing was disabled. I removed the device and re-connected it and now it is the Error 5. I will try the ? in console tomorrow when Im back with the device. I see the "Home " setting as 0.0 for both

From what i seen i think your machine does not have homing switches
So when you power machine up, you must set it to front/left

Then launch lightburn → Edit → device settings menu
Uncheck - Auto_Home on startup

Once done. click ok
Close lightburn > Reopen it

Click STOP button once to unlock machine
In console it should say “caution: Unlocked”
Now type in console box that says “type commands here”

?
press enter
Post output please. A picture of your lightburn main window with project would still help

will give it a try tomorrow… thanks for the info!

I am having the same issue, I typed ? in the console and got this:
error:5

Homing cycle is not enabled in your Grbl settings.

?

buffsize:255

<Idle|MPos:147.788,202.175,0.000|Bf:159,255|FS:0,0>

ok

Homing used to work, but stopped. It still homes at the end of a project. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

in console type
$RST=*

This will reset firmware to defaults

Normally if you follow instructions for rotary attachements is recomended to disable homing cycle (for obvious reasons - rotaries have no switches)

once you do $RST=*
click home. it should home again

Tried that, didn’t work. did the ? again and got this…

error:5

Homing cycle is not enabled in your Grbl settings.

?

<Idle|MPos:147.788,208.950,0.000|FS:0,0|Pn:PY|WCO:0.000,0.000,0.000>

ok

$RST=* should have put everything on defaults
and firmware should have responded with “MSG: Restoring defaults”

Try
$22=1

$22=1 kind of worked, it made home work, but when I tried to frame a project that should have been in the upper half of the bed, it ground it’s way across to where the cut should be and then started the cut at the base line instead of farther up.
I did the RST again and Home doesn’t work again. Updating the firmware in the laser now, I shall report back.

Update failed, waiting to hear back from Mecpow now on that.

Finally was able to sit down with it… it is defiantly a home issue. when I type ? in the command below was the result

?

<Idle|MPos:0.000,0.000,0.000|FS:0,0|Pn:P|WCO:0.000,0.000,0.000>

ok

I did this and below is what appears after $RST=*

$RST=*

[MSG:WiFi reset done]

[MSG:Settings reset done]

[MSG:Position offsets reset done]

ok

For me… $22-1 just replied with OK.
Still is doing the hunting thing going back and forth. I have to click STOP and then it says
ALARM:3

Reset while in motion. Grbl cannot guarantee position. Lost steps are likely. Re-homing is highly recommended.

ok

SimpleLaser 1.1h [‘$’ for help]

[MSG:‘$H’|‘$X’ to unlock]

[MSG:Caution: Unlocked]

ok

error:5

Homing cycle is not enabled in your Grbl settings.

$22=1

ok

I was playing around and set the laser offset… still hunts… but now shows text below

ALARM:9

Homing fail. Could not find limit switch within search distance. Defined as 1.5 * max_travel on search and 5 * pulloff on locate phases.

ok

SimpleLaser 1.1h [‘$’ for help]

[MSG:‘$H’|‘$X’ to unlock]

[MSG:Caution: Unlocked]

ok

I’m going on the assumption you don’t have homing switches. So, before you start up the laser you move the laser to left front corner. Startup laser and that should set your home. Then you also need to check that home on startup is unticked.

The same for me, I know it is a software issue, I just don’t know what. Now, my graphics are reversed for some reason. New wrinkle in the plan, I suppose.

Mine did that as well… funny thing is If i burn the files I downloaded for selecting settings… it burns with no issues… can’t figure out what the issue is… frustrating!
