ERROR 5 Stepper motors not responding in lightburn or LaserGRBL

Hi I am using a CNC 3018. The machine refuses to respond to any command from lightburn and inside laserGRBL the status moves from idle to jog when I press the arrows on the software but the machine stands still.
I am unsure if it a hardware or software issue. I have followed advice from other posts but no luck with some G-code troubleshooting.
(No limit switches are on the 3018, I’ve disabled homing to try but no luck also)

Homing

error:5

Homing cycle is not enabled in your Grbl settings.

Hi Lightspeed,
Is this the first time you’re setting this up, or did it work in the past?

I have a 3018 without limit switches - maybe i can help.

In LightBurn, Click on Edit, then wheel down to Machine Settings.
Confirm that this switch is off.

Error 5 appears that you had shut off the homing option in Grbl 1.1f but not in LightBurn. When you have two processors and it can be a challenge to get them talking to each other.

More about Error 5 here:

It worked in the past with Lightburn flawlessly until a recent change in settings for homing. This was to connect a DPSS laser.

Update: I was able to fix the 3018 connection with an install of a different board.

I will try the Grbl board again using the suggestions in the next reply. It may be a communication issue.
