Error 9, alarm 3, 1, 9

ALARM:9

Homing fail. Could not find limit switch within search distance. Defined as 1.5 * max_travel on search and 5 * pulloff on locate phases.

ALARM:3

Reset while in motion. Grbl cannot guarantee position. Lost steps are likely. Re-homing is highly recommended.

Every time we attempt to run our machine now it is throwing these codes. it is not homing framing or moving side to side at all. I have scoured the internet, but we are just not tech savvy, and I’m lost when it comes to troubleshooting in this tech code. we love the laser when we can get it working but its becoming very frustrating to not be able to figure out how to fix issues and use our beloved machine. Honestly it hurts my head trying to figure these things out right now.

I also cannot for the life of me figure out what limit switches are or where they are located on our machine ??

Can someone help a not too nerdy nerd out??

If it’s not moving side to side it sounds like either the stepper motor or the controller has failed or possibly a wiring problem.

Limit switches are small switches (push buttons) that are located at the end of the axis. If you move the head completely to the left side, you should here a clicking sound before it hits the frame. If you don’t have that sound, you don’t have switches.

From the product pictures of the F 10W, the laser does not have them, so you can’t use homing and absolute positioning.

How would one figure out if the stepper motor is failing and fix it? I legit can’t find any videos. I will try to disconnect and reconnect wires first, but we are pretty sure they are good.

I know at first when it started acting out I would home it then try to frame and the laser would start making sounds and look like it was attempting to go back and to the left (The homing is on the bottom or the side closest to us with the control panel on the right and home would be the left.) the sound was like a grinding sound and it would shake. No matter where we placed the start for the project it would not go to it on the work field, it would try to frame everything from the home position, by going back and left. Then we manually moved it to the middle of the field, framed it and placed it on absolute coordinates and it would work perfect. Then a couple days later we attempted, and this new thing started happening with it not moving back and forth and throwing error codes above? I do not know if these two issues are related and if it would give you a little more insight on what we are dealing with.

Would you know if these are related and if that would sound more so like a motor issue? Last do you have any ideas on how to resolve or can point me in the direction of a video or step by step instruction?

Thank you in advance for your reply and help.

OK this makes sense cause my husband said he didn’t think they had it, but I didn’t believe him. Thank you!!! LOL.

Need some basic info about your setup before going further. Please post a screenshot (not a cell phone pic) of your entire Lightburn screen with your project loaded and the Cuts/Layers Panel and Laser Panel visible. Also post a screenshot of the Settings Window (Gears icon) with the Units and Grids tab visible and post a screenshot of the Device Settings Window (Wrench and Screwdriver icon). In the console window type $$ then press enter key. Copy and paste all the output in the console window in your reply.
