Etching/Engraving a Photo on Slate with a XTool D1 Pro

I am trying to Etch a photo on slate for a memorial plaque using my XTool D1 Pro 20W laser, and I have not been successful. I am having trouble getting the face to clearly show-up on the slate. I have tried different setting, and inverted image with no success. I have looked for videos on line and cannot find one that has helped. Anyone out there who has had success with placing a photo of a person on slate, please help. I have attached the photo for reference. Your help will be most appreciated. Thank You, Don

Try with the following one

Thank You, I will give that a try.

So I tried the image, and I can not seem to get the right settings so the dark areas are not etched and the white areas are etched. I tried inverting the image, and I have tried line and fill and I still cannot get the face to show clearly. It looks great on wood, but the slate is difficult. Any advice would be great.
Thank you

I will give it a try today.

This video by Laser Everything is one of the best for explaining how to use your interval correctly to get the best results when photo etching. Although it’s done with a fiber, the process works with any laser and any material.

Good luck – photos are tough…
