So I’m very new to laser engraving since my work just got one and have recently been testing different settings and different attempts to get a good engrave and had little to no luck. I can get a solid etch on the aluminum that I’m working with but never an actual cut engraved into it regardless of what I try. I wanted to reach out and see if someone had any tips or advice on what I may be doing wrong.
Im using a thunder aurora 8 50w. my last attempt I had settings of 100mm/s, 60% power, 300kHz and 100ns for my qpulse. The result was an etch I was pretty happy with but I’m not sure how to begin trying to get an actual engrave instead.
I’ve tried fill and image mode for a few different tests, I had better luck getting an actual engrave on some stainless steel that I was using to practice but that stopped shortly thereafter when I tried out some aluminum.
I’ll definitely look into giving the material libraries a shot and see if that’s what I was missing, thank you!
The goal was to cut the logo into a relatively small piece of aluminum however it ended up extruding the logo in question away from the surface of the aluminum giving it a rougher surface that sat a millimeter or so away from the initial plane that was being engraved on which is what really through me off.
I did try what you suggested to lower the frequency and increase the qpulse which helped a lot in getting closer to what I was looking for though so thank you!
