Experimental Feature

Okay, long shot…
Is there a function that allows you to place the laser somewhere SPECIFIC in a layer and have it scan ONLY that section? Maybe you have a fill area you want to go over again OR a line that you want to redraw in only a certain section. Maybe your laser crashed and you want to pick up where you left off without having to guess.
I thought it would be useful to draw a selection anywhere, regardless of layer, and have it rescan WITHOUT scanning the entire contents or whichever layer or layers is selected.
Is this a thing?

No. At least not directly.

What you could do is draw a closed shape around the area that you want to rescan, then use Tools->Cut Shapes or a boolean operation to isolate out the area that you want to rescan. Then burn only that resulting shape using “Cut Selected Graphics” in Laser window.

As PY said, cutting pieces out of bigger shapes is not possible that way. But how you describe it above, the “cut selected graphics” option would also fit. Here you can select arbitrary shapes, regardless of which layer they are on, and only those are engraved. Though, this will only work with full shapes, so you can’t select half of a circle. But you can choose and object within a bigger project.

Great workaround. Thank you all!
