Exporting the finished files as a .dxf

I am attempting to send my finished files to a water jet cutter that is requesting a .dxf file, and I’m unable to save to this format. Is this an option? Sure would be great if it was.

Sure. File export instead of file save as.

Can you tell us why?

Yes, you can ‘Export’ vector data in DXF file format.

To export a file to a different file format, click on “Export” in the File menu (Ctrl+X / Cmd+X). LightBurn can export to SVG, AI, and DXF formats. Bitmaps are only exported in SVG files, and text is automatically converted to simple shapes in all export formats. (Alt+X)

If you have objects selected, only those will be exported, otherwise it will export the entire content of your project. If you have exactly one bitmap selected, you will also be given the option to export as PNG or JPG.

That. is. awesome. Thank you. Gonna try that.

Well, I am still operating on V 1.1.04 the same still hold true? And forgive the nube question, but “vector data”… I am attempting to export parts of a chair that are tapered and have 1/4" and 1/2" holes in them. Would that be a problem?

Exporting to DXF was initially added in version 0.9.00 released back on March 19, 2019, and has been enhanced over time, so yes, your version supports. You can double-check by looking in the menu for ‘File’→’Export’ and pull down the format options.

Import / Export improvements:

  • Added DXF export (polyline only for now)

Vector data is the information used to draw the thing. Think of it as the path the cutter will take to produce the part. Whereas Bitmap, or Raster data, is for images like a pic of the dog. Think group of dots to make a picture.

Looks like it SENT perfectly. Thank you very much for your help.
