Extensive settings and struggle with camera addition for Lightburn

Good morning everyone
After maybe 10 times of lens calibrations and alignments and struggling with a zoomed-in overlay, I finally got it done and figured out the problems.
The 1st problem with a zoomed-in overlay was fixed by adjusting the scale to as much as you can to spread the 4 circles as close as you can to the edges of your workspace or honeycomb and at the same time, the laser won’t be hitting the corners and grinding.
I use a Sculpfun S30 PRO MAX. The work area is supposed to be 400x400mm, but with the limit switches and the air pump’s hose, I am getting W: 370mm and H: 360mm.
The scale that I used for the alignment is 167.
The second problem that I was having, was that no matter how the camera lens calibration and the camera alignment processes were perfect, All my shapes weren’t aligned and the alignment was different around the workspace. So, finally, I figured out that the problem was the camera itself. Nowhere that I read or watched they mention that you have to use a fixed focus camera. The first camera that I bought was a 4K 1080P auto zoom. So I went and bought another camera just to test my theory but this time I got a 1080p 90° fixed zoom camera, and it worked perfectly.
I covered the whole honeycomb with white paper and printed the dot patterns on a coverstock. Did the camera lens calibrations and I was getting scores of 0.05 to 0.06. Then I did the alignment using white cardstock to cover all the Honeycomb, adjusted the focus on my laser and the alignment came out perfect from one trial.
I am putting a link for the camera that I bought it is currently on sale I got it for $15.00

Looks great. I’ll offer your comment about fixed focus/fixed zoom to the documentation team. Thanks for letting us know.

Good morning John
Thank you very much. Have a great day

The perfect camera alignment. Thank God.

I think we mention somewhere that all LightBurn cameras are manual focus, fixed lens, but you’re correct that it’s not explicitly stated anywhere that they must be. However, it’s true, they must be.

Changing anything that alters the size of the workspace area seen by the camera will affect the alignment - it relies entirely on the camera having a “locked view” of the top of the material, meaning distance from the material, as well as the field of view. Our documentation author will update the docs to include your feedback. Glad to see you finally got it nailed.
