External CAD layers and LightBurn Layers association

How to assign a lightburn layer (C00…CT2) from an AutoCAD (or similar software) type software
How to link AutoCAD (or similar software) layers to LightBurn layers (C00…CT2)?
How to import a given layer from AutoCAD (or similar software) into a LightBurn layer?

Is it:

  • giving a layer, in AutoCAD (or similar software), a name corresponding to one of those in LightBurn (for example C00…)?
  • grouping in AutoCAD (or similar software), by blocks named C00, C01, etc.?
  • giving the traces a color corresponding to that of the LightBurn layer where these traces must be placed, in addition to a “default” thickness? (In that case, where are this colors defined ?)

Thank you for the attention you paid to this post.

All of the Lightburn layers are defined by an RGB color. The easiest way to get what you want in the Lightburn DXF import is to design layers in AutoCAD with unique RGB colors that map correctly to the colors in LB. Do not create layers with entities that contain a mix of different colors. The easiest way to do so is creating entities that are colored by layer in AutoCAD.

You can also edit the layer names in Lightburn to correspond to your layer names in AutoCAD. The next time you import a DXF file into Lightburn, LB will map the colors from AutoCAD to the corresponding layer names you previously created.

Lightburn does not work with a line thickness via DXF. If you need line thickness in Lightburn, you might have to export a PDF from AutoCAD, and that can then lead to other issues.

You beat me to it again @RalphU!! I was just composing a reply when you posted yours. Thanks for linking to one of my replies in another post.

To add to your reply: the OP will find information some information on LB colours here:
