Falcon2 40w Metal work

Hey there everyone. hope everyone is having a great Easter weekend.

I have the Falcon2 40w laser and running Lightburn 2.0.05.

I have researched everthing I can think of at this point. However, things just seem to still not work.

I am attempting to engrave/etch into metal. However, I cannot even get the (Material Test) to work. I have checked all settings too many times and I do not seem to understand what the problem in. Even when etching tumblers it just takes away the coating and doesn’t seem to change anything else (Colors). I could use a little more team guidance to figure this out.

If there are any questions, I will attempt at answering them to the best of my ability. Thank you everyone and look forward to your help and direction.

You can’t engrave metals with a 450nm diode. So you don’t need to do more tests. The ONLY metal you can engrave is stainless steel. It’s just physics. The wavelength of your laser is not correct. You need an UV, IR or fiber laser to engrave metals like aluminum, brass, steel etc.
As you noticed, you can only use coated metals where you remove the coating, but leave the metal untouched.

With your blue diode, stick to organic materials like leather, wood, cork, slate etc.

With stainless you do not engrave or etch. What you do is what is called “anneal” where you discolor the surface.

@misken is exactly right, a blue light diode is the wrong laser for metal.
