**Feature Request: Lasso Selection Tool**

I may be overlooking it, but is there currently a lasso-style selection tool in LightBurn? At times, I find the standard rectangular selection box limiting when trying to select objects in tighter or more irregular areas.

If this isn’t already available, I’d like to suggest a lasso (freehand) selection option as a potential feature update. I think it could make precise selections easier and more efficient, especially in complex designs, and I imagine other users might find value in this as well.

Thank you for considering, and for continuing to improve an already fantastic tool.

There isn’t currently a ‘Lasso’ tool for selection. However, you can use the ‘Select Contained Shapes’ feature, under the ‘Edit’ menu.

Draw a shape around what you want to select, then go Edit > Select Contained Shapes’

There’s a feature request for this already over on Fider, I’d recommend giving it a vote!

Thank you. I’ll give it a try and go over to other area to vote. Thx!

HaHaHa!!! That was easy for you to say. Maybe somebody could do a lesson on how to draw freeform shapes minus the teeth gritting?

The Selection Tools are very versatile:

Thank you. Just made my life a lot easier!

That it does that I know about, but your sample was much more simple than the image above. I thought there might be something more freeform without clicking to set nodes. Like drawing with the pen in MS Paint.

Thanks @Aaron.F, but there is nothing new to me in that page.

No worry, I can print the area, freeform on paper, scan it, and import. A little extra work, but I am retired and don’t mind. :joy:

I didn’t expect anything else!

I should probably have said why I think the tools are versatile:
I’m not turning down the lasso selection tool, but with the combination of these tools I can at least achieve all my selection requirements:

  • Select shapes from layer
  • Select shapes smaller than selected
  • Enclosing and crossing Selection
  • Selection modifiers (Ctrl to remove and Shift to add to selection)
  • Invert Selection
  • And Select Contained Shapes
