Fiber engraving viewing angle weirdness

Well, got my fiber setup (somewhat).

Did some test runs on stainless only to find that the black marking cannot be viewed from straight up - it just disappears. I have to tilt the piece 30-40deg for black mark to show up, however looking at it by rotating the piece 90deg on plane it looks uniformly black (no matter the viewing angle). Here’s something i didn’t have to deal with on my co2 machine

The weirdness was engraved on M-Triangel PG OneS, 80% power, 10passes, 0.03 interval, rotating angle at 30deg per pass.

Maybe not what you wanted, but that sounds like a cool effect!

I had the same thing happen a few weeks back. I did an F1 racing car on natural slate that was painted silver. When the job was complete I couldn’t see the image but when tilted to the light from a window..there it was.

I thought it was a bad thing at first but then realised it was pretty cool.used in the right way.

You can’t see or just barely see the image from either side but looking directly at it with the light behind you it appears really well.
