Hello,
I am looking for advice on purchasing a Fiber laser engraver.
I do a bit of metal fabrication a blacksmithing. I am not a full time business. I am looking to engrave my makers mark and some other information on the tools and products that I make. I work with mostly mild steel and tool steels. I may use this for some artistic use as well. I dont plan on using this for coloring stainless steel so I don’t think I need a MOPA laser. From what I have researched I think I am looking at a 50 or 60 watt laser.
I have read that a Raycus laser source is a bit better than a Max source.
I am looking for a laser that will give me some depth of cut in steel similar to markings on a steel ruler where you an catch your fingernail on. I would like to stay under $3k if possible but my max is $3500.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Fiber are pulse machines. The more you have control on how it operates the better. MOPA allows a wide variance in pulse width and how many pulses/mm (or second). It isn’t used specifically for color work. I’ve tried color and it’s very time and material consuming, so much so, I don’t bother.
You have more adjustments with a MOPA forming the pulse shape this can change how fast and how much energy you put into the material.
If you’re eliminating a MOPA because of non color use, don’t. Understand what you’re getting and what it will do for your job.
Many people use non-MOPA devices to get a lot done.
I have a 60W JPT M7 MOPA, I use the pulse control a lot.
