I am in the process of getting information so I can purchase a fiber laser. I do have some experience with a Co2 gantry laser running under ruidia control with Lightburn. My question are is there a pint in power and wattage that a fiber laser has issues engraving vs cutting of material.is machine is for my personnel use and not high production.I would like to engrave Aluminum ,Stainless Steel . and do the occasional deep marking of brass coins. I have looked at lasers from Raycus and JPT for 20 - 80 watts. The 50 watt JPT LP seems to be the sweet spot. I am open to the JPT M7 mopa if it offers better performance . Not really looking for color on stainless as a main selling point.
Any guidance on this subject is appreciated. I may be in the paralysis by analysis stage right now.
Have you watched any of Russ Sadler videos on the basics of a fiber laser?
This will get you started if you haven’t…
This is also pretty good basics if you prefer to read…
This is a ‘guide’ to it use with various materials… It’s also based a MOPA laser.
I picked a MOPA type as it’s more flexible from what I have learned… haven’t been able to afford one yet…
Many people here have these… maybe a better answer will come along.
Thanks for the input. I have viewed Russ’s videos. I find him very informative.
jkwilborn when you said you pick mopa are yo referring ho the JPT LP or t he JPT M7 which I understand is a true full mopa due to the pulse duration setting. I see the JPT LP is usually less costly then The JPT M7
thank you for you replay in advance
