When trying to send a file to my OMtech 80W laser I kept getting an error that the file was too big for the memory. I researched this in this forum and didn’t find an answer that helped. I went through and deleted all the files in memory of the controller and still couldn’t send it.
But, I did find an answer and wanted to share it. I reduced the DPI on the file and it went through.
If I’m going to do intricate big jobs, maybe I should see about upgrading the memory or controller. But, until that happens, this is how I fixed it.
What type of file is it? What physical size on your bed is it? Have you restarted the laser controller since you deleted the files?
EDIT: I see you edited your message while I was typing my reply! It would help us on the forum to know the details I asked about above. You might be trying to laser something in an inefficient manner.
You didn’t specify which Ruida you have, but they have a fixed amount of memory… not like your phone or pc…
Most of the manuals on these specify how much memory they have.
Probably cut half of the generated code out by changing the dpi.
Can you produce a 0.0423mm size focus point?
Most of us can’t, I can get to around 0.05mm if I work hard and use the compound lens. Most stock lenses need everything right to get to 0.10mm (254 dpi/lpi) but it’s do able…
Even if the laser can do it, it’s as much or more dependent on what the material will accept. If damage from the laser on the material is 0.5mm, you can’t expect anything better than 50 dpi/lpi… I’ve had some slate with limits on resolution because of this.
There is a good video by Laser Everything on photo engraving, but I recommend it to anyone using a laser. It will give you a procedure to find the best dpi/lpi for any laser with any material… Suggest you take a few and watch it… it will save you time, materials and give you better results.
Hi, I have an Omtech 80 watt.
Ruida wanna be controller.
I believe the memory is 90+ mb
Have you tried a full formatting of the memory?, I do mine occasionally just to give it a good clear out.
You could put your project on more than one layer with identical settings and turn off enough of the layers to get a short enough file to fit the controller.
Then turn off the layer that you sent, delete the file from the controller and send the next layer(s).
It’s a bit convoluted but it would bypass the file size limitation of the controller.
