Fill disappears when importing image to lightburn

I am trying to import an image from either PDF or SVG onto Lightburn. Everything is good except that the fill disappears. no way of getting it back. tried everything. please help

First, the layer must be set to fill in the cuts/layers panel. It must be closed shapes in order to fill. Check the preview window to see how it will burn. It will show what is filed and what isn’t.

Then go to Window menu> -filled/smooth and filled items will display in your work area as filled.

Thank you for your reply but unfortunately it still does not reveal the fill

Congrats and welcome, glad you found Lightburn and this forum.
Maybe check for duplicate shapes.

Help us see what you see. Please post a screenshot (not a cell phone pic) of your entire Lightburn screen with your project loaded and the Cuts/Layers Panel and Laser Panel visible. (Wrench and Screwdriver icon).

The sails should be filled but the windows in the jib and lower main should be clear. I can fill but then all sail definition disappears unlike the original

sails should be grey

This is the original

What program are you using for designing?
Maybe @berainlb @RalphU @Sutick can help more.

i received it as a pdf. I really don’t want to hassle the guy that designed it cos it was a huge favour

When you load this, what is the engraving type in the layer? The PDF is likely an image, the svg is a vector and should load as a line drawing. Some svg files are actually not svg.

If it’s image, you can’t use line unless you trace it first.

If it’s in line, the details in the sail will not show up without isolating them. If you make the sail too dark, the details in the sail won’t show.

Can you post a screenshot of the cut/layers gui?

:smiley_cat:

Post the PDF nd i’ll take a look and see if i can convert to svg. Unless you already have a svg

Or you can do it in Image mode.

This is not an SVG file.

Thats very kind but the pdf wont let me copy it

i know, its a screenshot

I suspect it’s because the sails have both a fill and an outline. If an object has a fill and an outline LB will use the outline colour to determine which layer to put it on. If the object has fill only LB will place it on a layer corresponding to the fill. If the object has an outline but no fill LB will use the outline colour.

Here’s an example:
Original in CorelDraw

Result in LB

I hope this helps.
